Abstract

Calli were obtained using hypocotyl region of scedlings of Dalbergia sisoo as the explant in MS media supplemented with auxins namely 2,4-D, NAA and IAA and cytokinin viz.: BAP used in different concentrations, singly or in combinations. Good growth of callus was obtained in NAA (0.5 mg/1)+BAP (0.5 mg/l) and BAP (0.5 mg/l)+IAA (0.5 mg/1) treatments. Cell density was found to be highest in BAP (0.5 mg/l) treatment. The greater number of cells/mg callus mass was possibly due to higher rate of cell division in cytokinin treatment.
