Abstract

Regarding the arrangement of Anna’s fate in “Anna Karenina”, the author Tolstoy foreshadowed in the opening citation of the volume with the Bible: “I will seek justice, and I will seek retribution.” However, many critics and readers still express sympathy and confusion for Anna’s tragic fate. To explore the rationality of Tolstoy’s arrangement of Anna Karenina’s fate, this article will combine Tolstoy’s own religious thoughts and creative background to analyze the reasons for her tragic ending from three aspects: The author, the content of the article, and the core of Anna’s character.
