Abstract

This study investigates the challenges exhibited in secondary schools following integration of ICT into the curriculum. In order to accomplish the objectives, two research questions guided the study. Various methods such as interviews, questionnaires and observation were used to collect data from the selected secondary schools. The information gathered through various methods were merged and then analyzed by content analysis. The study reveals that the use of ICT in schools face a number of challenges such as low financial capacity to access enough computers, internet service and computer accessories, lack of reliable technical support, low levels of teachers and students knowledge on management and utilization of web information and under utilization of other ICT facilities in schools such as mobile phones, television and radio devices for teaching and learning. However, these challenges are more pronounced in the government secondary schools than in the private ones. Therefore effective use of ICT facilities in schools need not only more funds from both private and government sectors but also more training for teachers on utilization and management of web information in schools.
