Lateral periodontal cyst is a rare type of odontogenic cysts of the jaws. Despite their clinical and radiological presentation it can be diagnosed by their histopathological characteristics. Since pain or other clinical symptoms have seldom been reported, lateral periodontal cysts are found on routine radiographic examination. The objective of this paper is to present the case of lateral periodontal cyst mimicking with residual cyst.
Case Description: A 65 year old male patient reported with a complaint of swelling on right side of face from last 9 months after the extraction of premolar on the right side of the mandible. Clinically it resembles the residual cyst as swelling present in the edentulous area of the extracted mandibular premolar.
Conclusion: Although lateral periodontal cyst is rare, the purpose of this report is to emphasis on proper diagnosis to establish proper treatment as in this case which is clinically clear cut case of residual cyst but histologically came as lateral periodontal cyst.
