Abstract

Aim: The aim of the present study is to prepare Ibuprofen loaded Sodium alginate nanoparticles by Desolvation technique using Acetone as desolvating agent. The model drug, Ibuprofen is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) commonly used for the relief of symptoms of arthritis, primary dysmenorrheal (menstral pain), alleviating fever and reducing inflammation. It also has an analgesic effect, anti-platelet effect and vasodilation effect. Ibuprofen is available in the form of extended release tablets, chewable tablets, sustained release capsules, liquid filled capsules, syrup and suspension.

Methodology: In the present study, for the preparation of ibuprofen loaded sodium alginate nanoparticles by desolvation technique, two methods were employed for the addition of desolvating agent; continuous addition method and intermittent addition method.

Results and Conclusion: The particle size of the prepared nanoparticles was determined by particle size analyzer. Comparative study was performed to determine the best method for the preparation of nanoparticles and it was concluded that because of the smaller particle size and greater stability, intermittent addition method was considered to be the best method for the preparation of ibuprofen loaded sodium alginate nanoparticles.
