Abstract

Different moths larvae feeding upon different food plants, belonging to different families were selected for the histochemical observations of aminoacids present in their alimentary canal. The larvae selected were Earias fabia Stoll. (Bhindi shoot and fruit borer) feeding on malvacaeous sp., Hellula undalis Fabr. (Cabbage borer) feeding on Brassica sp. and Phathoramaea operculela Zell. (Potato tuber moth) feeding on solanaceous sp. Histochemical observations made on aminoacids (Tryosine and Tryptophane) in the digestive tract of the above mentioned larvae revealed significant correlation in regard to their food habits.
