Corrosion is the process of a metal gradually degrading due to chemical reactions with the environment. The structure's service life is a crucial concern that is determined by the costs of construction, maintenance, and repair. Failure in the structure is mainly due to early reinforcement corrosion. The corrosion mechanism, factors influencing corrosion, corrosion monitoring techniques, and corrosion protection measures are all discussed in this study. Corrosion monitoring can be used as an effective tool to identify durability problems earlier within the concrete. Monitoring techniques include linear polarization, active monitoring with sensors, DAQ cards, impedance measurement with chips, and so on. Methods of prevention include the use of paints with various chemical compositions, cathodic protection inhibitors, fiber-reinforced polymers, and so on.
