Abstract

Present study aimed to analyze the occlusion and disocclusion time in young adults affected by bruxism compared with healthy subjects. It is known that bruxism is parafunctions in maxillofacial area that is done unconsciously during sleep, in which tooth rows are pressed against each other and perform moves in a horizontal direction. The symptoms in the oral cavity are slightly elusive and this makes it difficult to diagnose.

A total of 34 patients were selected, including 15 men and 19 women aged between 20-25 years. There were two groups - 1st - control (13 persons) and 2nd - patients who reported clinging or tearing their teeth (21 persons). The studies were conducted with a T-Scan Novus occlusion diagnostic device. The results obtained for the occlusion and disocclusion time were analyzed using the latest version of the T-Scan system software (version 9.1) In the T-Scan recorded on all the subjects, the values of occlusion time and disocclusion time.

It was found that the occlusion time in the control group was performed for a longer period of time compared to the group of persons suffering from bruxism. The disocclusion time of subjects in the first group is shorter in length than those of the second group.

The T-Scan system makes it possible to measure the occlusion and disocclusion time, which aids in the early detection of an infantile form of bruxism.
