Abstract

Pesticides are chemicals that are used to prevent, repel, control, or even eliminate pests that are dangerous to humans. The use of pesticides has an impact on both the targeted and non-targeted species, including people. The ecosystem, the environment, and human health may all be negatively impacted by the parent pesticides, their degradation products, and their metabolites. The purpose of this study was to examine the literature on the effects of pesticide contamination on the ecosystem, the environment, and human health. This was done by assessing both the benefits, effects and risks associated with the continuous use of pesticides as well as ways to mitigate the pesticides pollution including biocontrol and GHG mitigation. The methodology used in the study to look for the review articles was through the internet by going through websites which include Google, Google Scholar and PUBMED. According to the studies that have been analysed, pesticide contamination has both advantages and disadvantages as well as negative effects on the ecosystem. The research have also shown that using integrated pest management (IPM) tactics including biological and cultural pest control could be employed to control pests instead of chemical pesticides in order to control pesticide pollution.
